 Introduction:
Propagation dynamics has been successfully captured by partial differential equations since the pioneering works of Fisher and Kolmogorove-Petrovski-Piskunov (KPP) in the 1930s. Significant further developments have appeared in the last a few decades, including models incorporating heterogeneous environments, nonlocal dispersal, climate change and evolution of range boundaries. This special session aims to showcase some of the recent progresses in this direction by speakers from a selection of the main players in the field, which will provide an opportunity for exchange of ideas and fostering collaborations, and hopefully help to identify several promising directions of research in this area for the next 5-10 years.
