Introduction:
| This special session aims to highlight recent developments at the interface of mathematical modeling, inverse problems, and computational methods. The goal is to bring together researchers working on PDE-based models, both from a theoretical and numerical perspective, with those focusing on data-driven and learning-guided approaches, fostering connections and cross-fertilization of ideas. Possible applications span from biology and medicine, with the development of models and algorithms for tumor growth, to engineering, where the identification of defects in materials is of central importance, showing how hybrid approaches can advance the applied sciences.
