 Introduction:  
  Problems in PDE constrained shape and topological optimization have many applications in fluid dynamics, thermal conductivity, waveguides, mechanical vibrations, population dynamics, and image processing. Such problems require efficient, accurate, and robust numerical methods for solving the governing partial differential equations and iterative optimization approaches to find the optimal geometry. This minisymposium aims to bring together mathematicians and scientists interested in this interdisciplinary area to share recent results and exchange ideas.
