 Abstract:
Rhythmic behaviors underlie a variety of biological activities including sensory, motor and cognitive functions of the brain. Characteristic oscillations are also observed in smaller neural circuits called central pattern generators that produce rhythmic motor output without sensory feedback or central input. In this session, we focus on recent advances in the study of rhythmic behaviors and complex dynamics arising in various biological circuits, with an emphasis on computational and data-driven approaches to integrate neurophysiological data into mathematical models. We also discuss how factors such as network connectivity and the dynamics of individual neurons and synapses influence the multifunctionality and interplay between rhythmic states, their regulation, and resilience to external perturbations.
