Impacts of Migration on Family Members Left Behind: The Case of Damboya Woreda, Kembata Tembaro Zone South Nation Nationalities and People Region- Ethiopia

Abstract:
Migration studies are an interdisciplinary study with in a broader field of development studies due to its association with debates about development and underdevelopment. Irregular migration is one the most significant topic in migration studies and its complex nature has attracted many scholars around the world. In Ethiopia, large scale cross borders migration is increased, especially in the last decades and became more complex. Irregular migration has various impacts on the family left behind;however, there is dearth of information on the issue. Therefore, this investigation examines the impact of cross-borders irregular migration from kembata tembaro zone in southern Ethiopia. To achieve the study`s objectives qualitative method will be employed as it help to gain deeper understanding of the topic in the real/ local context. The study will use data collection instruments like, in-depth interview and focus group discussion. The primary information will be collected from purposively selected migrant`s family members. Finally, thematic analysis will be used to analyse the data. The study will use the New Economics of Labour Migration Theory as a base to explore the impact of irregular migration on migrant`s family members left at home country.
