Abstract: |
Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a costly disorder that comprises a continuum of symptoms and severity of associated problems. A distinct subgroup, problem drinkers (PD), makes up about half of all individuals with AUD, and PDs tend to be characterized as having mild to moderate levels of AUD severity. We use mathematical modeling with clinical data to investigate the mechanisms of behavior change in drinking behavior among problem drinkers in order to help healthcare providers implement more effective interventions. We first investigate the relationship between alcohol consumption and desire, before incorporating other factors, such as commitment and confidence. |
