Conjugate heat transfer through entry region of finned double pipe heat exchanger

Abstract:
Numerical simulation of the conjugate forced convection, subject to the boundary conditions of constant wall temperature peripherally as well as axially, has been carried out in the thermal entrance region of the finned double-pipe heat exchanger. Energy equations in solid and fluid regions have been coupled by applying continuity of temperature and flux conditions at the solid-fluid interfaces. A novel procedure is adopted to overcome the discontinuities present because of re-entrant corners of the domain. Different geometries of the finned double pipe have been explored and comparison is carried out.
