Abstract:
I show that some finite difference scheme applied to Hamilton-Jacobi equations with Tonelli Hamiltonians provides convergent approximation of not only viscosity solutions but also their derivatives and characteristic curves at the same time. Then, I apply this approximation technique to weak KAM theory. These results are reminiscent of the approximation theories based on the vanishing viscosity/discount method.
