We give an overview of the results on the number of limit cycles of slow-fast Li\'enard systems, with a focus on recent results where existing known lower bounds are improved to a great extent. On top of that we extend the applicability of these results by pointing out that slow-fast Li\'enard systems are normal forms, up to exponentially small error, by general contact points appearing in planar slow-fast systems.
