Min-max symbols are a convenient generalization of the well-known kneading symbols in one-dimensional dynamics generated by multimodal mappings. From the computational point of view, min-max symbols require virtually the same effort as the kneading ones, with the plus that they provide additional information about the minimim/maximum character of the iterates of the critical values. We will present some theoretical and practical results which involve min-max symbols, including the computation of topological entropy.
