We consider the decoupling of dissipative initial value differential equations
by recasting as nonautonomous systems where the linear term in the equation
corresponds to the coefficient matrix function of the linear variational equation.
We investigate iterative methods for determining the decoupling transformation
that result in different spectral gap conditions. We outline the theoretical
results we obtain, the consequences of these different spectral gap conditions,
and illustrate the utility of these techniques numerically for some challenging
problems including Lorenz '96 models. |
