Over the last years so-called {\em set oriented} numerical methods have been developed for the numerical analysis of dynamical systems. We will show how to make use of such techniques for the approximation of {\em transport processes} in ocean dynamics. In this context we will present new theoretical developments concerning these methods, and we will illustrate their applicability by the quantitative analysis of the movement of {\em Agulhas rings} into the South Atlantic Ocean. |
