\begin{abstract} A general approach to the evolution of complex atomic structures in terms of the Phase Field Field Theory is proposed. It is shown that this approach can be extended to atomic scale and can be used to get an insight on the atomic mechanisms of solid-solid phase transformation. This new approach is illustrated by examples of systems of different physical nature, scales and complexities. The link between the self-organisation in living and physical systems will be also discussed. \end{abstract}
