Abstract:
It has recently been shown that continuous wave lasers can generate steady, parametrically-analytic, laser-driven convective fluid flows (Lane, \{\it Fluids} 2021), (Lane {\it Stud. App. Math.} 2024). We investigate the stability of these flows, by calculating their spectral data. Steady internally forced convection is contrasted to classic Rayleigh-Bernard convection. The spectrum is shown to be parametrically analytic at simple eigenvalues. The spectral data of large amplitude flows are computed, and dynamics near unstable flows are presented.
