Abstract:
It is well known that a famous combustion experiment in a narrow channel done by Zik et al.(1998) shows a fingering char pattern for a suitable oxygen supply. In this experiment, a paper edge(flammable material) which is perpendicular to the oxygen flow direction is uniformly ignited. Recently, Matsuoka et al. conducted a combustion experiment in a narrow channel that the center of a paper is ignited and oxygen is supplied from the center. Then, flame spreads radially. The authors reported that behavior of the flame spread differs depending on the oxygen supply velocity. In this talk, we discuss this radial flame spread in a narrow channel from the viewpoint of mathematical modeling.
