A numerical study of eventual periodicity of a class of nonlinear dispersive wave equation

Abstract:
The KdV equation is a well-known PDE for shallow water waves. In this talk, a survey of numerical solutions of KdV type PDEs is presented. We have used finite difference and collocation methods to approximate the solution of an Initial-Boundary-Value-Problem of KdV type nonlinear PDE. It is shown numerically that when a periodic boundary forcing is imposed at the left boundary, solution at any spatial point eventually becomes temporally periodic of the same periodic as the boundary forcing.
