Abstract:
We present in this talk recent results concerning some spatial models in epidemiology. We will pay a particular attention to the SIR models, introduced by Kermack and McKendrick. These models consist in systems of coupled parabolic PDEs. Using some tools from reaction-diffusion equations theory, we will prove some results concerning the propagation of epidemics in heterogeneous environments. In particular, we shall establish a threshold effect for spatial epidemiological models, and prove the existence/non-existence of traveling waves. We shall also study some qualitative properties of these models.
