Abstract:
The paper presents the results of a study that attempts to investigate the influencing factors of economic growth driving force conversion. Based on panel data from 1997 to 2015, this study contributes to evaluate the green total factor productivity of 30 Chinese provinces using a Global Malmquist- Luenberger (GML) index based on the SBM directional distance function. Then we further investigate the time-varying characteristics of conventional and new driving forces contributes to GTFP by constructing a varying coefficient panel data model. Our findings reveal several key conclusions: first, although GTFP has turned in 2011 in most regions, the change of GTFP has spatial heterogeneity over time. Second, the conventional driving force affecting GTFP is gross fixed capital formation, while new driving forces are innovation capacity and industrial structure, and the contribution of new driving forces to GTFP is greater than conventional driving forces. Besides that, the impact of different driving force on GTFP is spatially heterogeneous. Finally, the time-varying characteristics of conventional and new driving forces contributes to GTFP are heterogeneous, and the time-varying characteristics have a strong correlation with events over time.
