Abstract:
| Foundations of Data Science is a cutting edge interdisciplinary area between mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Data science has experienced a rapid development in very recent years due to the enhanced ability to collect and store data in sciences, engineering and industry. This development challenges our understanding of data and how to analyze it in modern settings, and motivates the discovery of new scalable approaches which expand current theoretical and computational establishments. Our special session will communicate mathematical and statistical developments of computational data-enabled sciences. In turn, several research avenues will be discussed for integrating aspects of our respective perspectives on data methods to ultimately deepen our understanding of the new methodologies and theories which need to be further developed. Our speakers include a group of researchers whose expertise originates in heterogeneous fields of mathematics, statistics, and computer science including high dimensional probability, Bayesian statistics, machine learning, optimization, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, and computational topology and geometry. |
